Belladonna’s Garden

Branding & Packaging

Brief
Choose a fictional character and create branded product packaging that represents them.

Character
For this fictional character I chose Tolkien’s Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo is a wealthy older hobbit who loves his creature comforts and, as any hobbit, takes great pride in his garden. He joins a quest, goes on a life-altering journey and ultimately returns home to his much-missed armchair.

Execution
To provide Belladonna’s Garden customers with the subtle luxury any real-world hobbit would desire, I combined rich colors, custom patterns, and luxe textures. I felt it was important to stay away from the more sparse and modern trends in luxury brands and focus on encapsulating a warm and inviting feeling. To further align the products with the persona, all colors were pulled from different descriptions of Bilbo's wardrobe in The Hobbit.

I developed three patterns for this brand; each is a representation of Bilbo's character during different stages in his journey using the flower language. The Transplanter pattern represents Bilbo pre-journey and uses huckleberry which means simple pleasures. The Cultivator pattern uses violets to represent Bilbo during-journey and means faith, determination and courage. The Trowel pattern uses zinnia to represent Bilbo post-journey and means remembrance.
